Ouch!!! KD hits the game winner with 1.4 on the clock!!!

Nene (No, not from the TV show “The Housewives of Atlanta”) was the biggest free agent this year. Teams including: NJ Nets, Indiana Pacers and the Houston Rockets went in for the Brazilian center, but he is going nowhere. The Nuggets keep him in the baby blues with a 5year $67million dollar deal. Nene averaged 14.5 points and 7.6 boards a game last season, the anchor for a team that was shaken up with the Melo trade. The Nuggets look like a solid squad after acquiring a bundle of players including Danilo Galinari and Tyson Chandler. Ty Lawson after spending the lockout in Lithuania is back and ready to hold down the PG spot and Denver favorites Birdman and Kenyon Martin are all coming back to get after a Western conference Championship.
The Indiana Pacers landing David West is HUGE! They showed the ability to compete in the play-offs last year, giving the Miami Heat a run for their money. The problem in the end for the Pacers was not being able to finish the games in the fourth quarter. David West, a top PF in the NBA will be able to add 3 things to help them get over the hump:
1. He adds depth to the Forward position which was held down primarily be Jeff Foster and Tyler Hansbrough
2. He takes the edge off of Danny Granger with scoring responsibilities
3. The Pacers are a young team, the 8 year vet along with Dahntay Jones and Jeff Foster, veterans are necessary in winning in the end.
The Celtics bid hard for West offering up more money over a 3-year span, when the deal was almost finalized the Pacers ended up being a more ideal situation for the vet. West would’ve been backing up KG on a team that is still missing, something. Rajon Rondo’s name has been in trade talks and with Jeff Green sidelined for the season, Boston’s chances of claiming a championship looks grim. Ray Allen took to ESPN Boston to talk about David West stating:
“Once it got down to the end, I think his ego kicked back in,” Allen said. “He wanted the dollars. I guess it comes down to ‘What is a championship worth to you?’
“Think of all the guys who have made $20 million and could be considered one of the best ever, but they get chided because they never won. We [the Big Three] all had to do less when we won. We’re still taking less to make it work. But it’s worth it. No one can ever say to KG, Paul or me, ‘You guys never got your ring.’”
If West’s destination was Charlotte or Phoenix I could see Ray Allen’s point. The Celtics offered up $9.6million a year to Indiana’s $10 Million a year, I don’t think that a $400,000 dollar difference would steer him into another direction. The Pacers now have depth, scoring capabilities and a front court that has elite starters and bench. I’m excited to see the Pacers play and hopefully get back to the winning tradition!
The little guy came up big in the play-offs!! It comes as a surprise that the Mavs didn’t try to keep him in Dallas. The T-wolves ink him in for a 4 year deal worth nearly $20 million, which adds to the collection of PGs in Minnesota. We have yet to see Ricky Rubio in NBA action after being drafted in the first round two years ago, but nonetheless he is a promising prospect and will be charted to start this season. Luke Ridenhour is a streaky shooter that has had played on several teams in his career, looks like he might need to pack his bags again. JJ will add toughness to the backcourt with his defensive skills and his has the ability to drive to the goal and create his own shot. Great grab for the T-Wolves!

Josh McRoberts is moving to LA and hopefully he packed his A game which has been missing in his stint in Indiana. Drafted to Portland and being honored as the Gatorade player of the year in high school, he has all the promise of a player that can hold their own in the NBA. In his 3 years in Indiana his #s have been nothing of someone who was a highly touted prospect. He averaged 7.4 points and 5.3 rebounds and started 51 games last season. I’m curious to see how he fits into the Lakers scheme of play, but with a new coach I’m sure he can re-invent himself, like a lame high school graduate going to college. The Lakers have him for 2 years and are going to have to rely on him to play big with the departure of LO.
Am I really shocked?
Let me think, two things: 1. The New Orleans Hornets are OWNED by the NBA, David Stern would lose money if they let Chris Paul go! The league is trying to sale the team and letting their best asset leave will be detrimental to the teams stock. 2. CP3 was very vocal in the CBA talks, this is Stern’s way of getting back at the Superstar for participating in a messy battle between players and owners.
The Basketball world was shook when they heard the trade was vetoed by Stern. Even a Laker Hater like myself was angered when I heard! The pieces were there, the Hornets were getting valuable players and picks, but Stern wanted more.
This is what the Lakers offered up for the All-Star PG:
In exchange for Paul the Hornets would receive: Lamar Odom, Luis Scola, Kevin Martin and Goran Dragic. The Hornets would also gets draft picks.
Pau Gasol would be sent to Houston.
All this just doesn’t seem right, the trades are worth it. The Hornets, Rockets and Lakers all signed off on the trade but after Stern got heat from the other owners, he denied it. Seems like an irrational move in the heat of the moment. The owner whose name stood out was Dan GIlbert, Cavs Owner. He has been crying for the past year about trades, especially after LBJ left for Miami. The owners felt like the league was allowing the lakers to be “propped” for championships. In the end, CP3 will not be in yellow this season, Lakers or Hornets.
IU’s Christian Watford hits an incredible 3pter to beat KU!
Coach Crean jizz his pants!
Tyson Chandler is moving to the big apple to complete the puzzle started last season when Amare Stoudemire and Camelo Anthony joined forces in MSG. The center was critical in the Mavericks winning the Championship last season averaging nearly a double-double in pts and rebs.
The move for Chandler came after a contract offer that was less than flattering to the 7-footer– The Dallas Mavericks want to be contenders in the 2012 free agency race for Dwight Howard and Deron Williams, signing Chandler to a max contract would leave $5million in cap space, which will not land a superstar. Another reason Mark Curban did not want to commit to Chandler was that the Mavs are an old team. They have committed to older players, if they dont bring in younger players they will not be able to compete with the young west.
The Golden State Warriors were not shy during free agency–letting it be known that they will pay big bucks to beef up the front court. They sought after Nene and Chandler offering both max contracts- $60million/4Yrs. Nene stayed in the baby blues and after the Knicks put their name in for Chandler it was a wrap, the lights of NY are attracting players like bugs.
So, will the NY knicks be a better team with Stoudemire, Melo and Chandler? I’m not 100% sold on them just yet. A Championship team has to have decent players in EVERY position on and off of the bench. The holes in the roster showed last season. Chandler will step in as a starter (because the Turiaf and Jeffries are bums) but who is going to give a spark off the bench????!!! Thats the problem!
Caught up with Travis Leslie at the Louis Williams exhibition game…
Thanks for the S/o Travis.
